Stay safe when buying tech using Facebook, Gumtree, etc

Stay Safe!

Every week we hear from customers who buy items off Gumtree or Facebook groups etc and who have been swindled of their hard earned cash, so we decided it would be a good idea to give our friends a small checklist to check against the item before they purchase it.

1. When buying any item please make sure that your buying in a public area or at the sellers home. We recommend buying a item from the sellers home address so if there is any issues after sale, such as the phone being blocked you have their home address to pass onto the police.
2. When purchasing any item like a iPhone make sure that the phone has been completely wiped of all passwords.
3. Check that icloud has been removed. This can be checked before you buy by going into settings, icloud and making sure the email and password fields are empty. If there is a email address make sure the seller removes that before you hand over cash. If they claim they cannot remove it do not buy the phone.
4. Always purchase a item with a friend or family member - safety in numbers.
5. Check the whole item over, screen, all the buttons work, the sound works, that it can make and receive calls. Check the item with new sims too if they claim its unlocked.
6. We also recommend not buying any phones or tablets that are still within the contract period as the seller can cancel or not pay their contract and weeks down the line your phone or tablet can get blocked.

If you use the above checklist you shouldnt have any issues and if you do need a second opinion or have any questions please call us on 0151 530 1050 or message us on social media.

Thank you
The team at The Phone Surgery
